A Salute to Captain Apollo
In Memoriam: Mr. Richard Hatch (1945 - 2017)
Warrior named for a Greek God on mythical high
So many daring missions for him to launch and fly
Son of a great leader for all remaining humankind
Brave and strong with a keen and disciplined mind
No luxury of indolence during each lighted day
Darting maneuvers abound at each colonial play
Wise yet remotely stoic in his designated role
Never losing sight of his ultimate squadron role
Joy and tragedy both tested sharp within his life
Gaining a young son but losing a beloved wife
But he stands for unwavering faith and pride
Not crying for all to see, but quietly inside
Warrior with honors given and yet still due
Remembered with grace as a gentleman true
His continued search for new kind of birth
That elusive and shining place known as
Earth

Poem Notes:
I had the privilege to meet Mr. Richard Hatch at the 2008 and 2013 conventions.
This poem is a tribute to his role of Captain Apollo in Battlestar Galactica.
It was an honor, sir.
